Travel Directions to Drepung Gomang Monastery


DREPUNG GOMANG MONASTERY:  Is located in the Indian state of Karnataka. The nearest city is Hubli which is an hour's drive from Drepung Gomang Monastery. Hubli is connected with major Indian towns and cities either by train or bus.  Below is a map of India that indicates where Hublai is.

GOA:  Goa is only a five-hour drive to our monastery.  There is a direct flight from New Delhi to Goa and also one from Mumbai (Bombay) to Goa. To reach the monastery from Goa, one has a scenic drive through small towns like Karwar and Yellapur. Also there is direct bus travel and a train line from Goa to Hubli.

BANGALORE: A "happening city," and "info-tech center, Bangalore is a 10 hour-drive to Drepung Gomang Monastery.  Many buses and trains go from Bangalore directly to Hubli.  It has an international airport and is connected with other important cities of the world.

 DELHI: From Delhi, one can take a flight to Goa or travel down directly by train to Hubli from Delhi. There are also direct flights from Delhi to Bangalore to Goa, and to Mumbai.   Delhi is the capital city of India and is connected to major cities of the world by air.

IMPORTANT NOTICE TO VISITORS AND TRAVELERS

To visit this monastery, foreigners MUST apply for a Protective Area Permit FIVE MONTHS BEFORE their visit.  Without this permit, it is impossible for any foreigner to reside here or study here even for a single day.   Local Indian police and Passport officers regularly check the monastery and guest house for any foreigners. If a visitor is found without a permit, then he/she can be fined and imprisoned.
