Our New Temple

Palden Tashi Drepung Gomang Monastery

His Holiness the Fourteenth Dalai Lama of Tibet dedicated the new Palden Tashi Drepung Gomang Temple on December 7, 2002 at a ceremony attended by dignitaries and guests from all over the world.  Following the dedication His Holiness gave a teaching for ten days on Je Tsong Kapa's commentaries on Nagarjuna's Treatise on Emptiness. Many high lamas and thousands of monks were present at the ceremony and teachings.

The old temple was too small to accomodate the overgrowing population of Drepung Gomang Monastery.  Monks were required to sit outside in the hot sun or rain as they chanted and participated in teachings and ceremonies.
